The other day I woke up at about 4 something in the morning, feeling inspired. I'd love to say God is waking me up to speak to me, but there is a slight possibility that its menopause that is making me a hot mess, so I'm thinking God decided to take advantage of this quiet time anyway and help me get out what has been on my heart for a few years. I was able to paint 4 of my new angel series canvases within a day or so.
Y'all know I love farmhouse decor and all about my memories of country life, and I do have a barn series in the works. But some of you may not know our full story as parents. In 2002 we had to give our oldest son, Joshua, back to the Lord. He was eight and had a weak heart. It was a really spiritual time in our life and we knew how much God loved us and hurt for us, even in the midst of all the pain. Truth is Joshua never was ours anyway. These beautiful pieces of ourselves are just on loan, and we are caretakers until the day we aren't anymore. Now we are finding ourselves in a different arena of raising an incredibly smart, creative, and strong-willed teen. I won't go into all of his details but teen years are hard. We are reminded of how much our battle is really on our knees. Kids today have SO much temptation with peers and the internet. For some parents it may be easier to lay low and avoid conflict, but we only have a few short years left to impart our faith and standards before they are gone. So what is the best way to teach our kids about the reality of God's presence and the spiritual battle at hand? Draw near to God ourselves. Seek Him. Hear his voice. Make sure we are living in His will and in His Word. Years ago my husband and I also loved reading Peretti's "This Present Darkness" which helped to visualize what is going on in the spiritual realm everyday. We are fighting for our children and for this generation. We are fighting to make better choices and keep our priorities in line. God has placed very specific friends in our lives as prayer partners to lift us up and encourage us and we are so grateful.
This angel series celebrates the unseen encouragement that protects and guides us. It is an act of worship for me to paint it, and a ministry of hope to get these paintings into another's home. (Although I am sure I will keep some for myself). As they are completed I am also putting print options on the site. I hope they inspire you, encourage you and comfort you in whatever season you are walking. Just remember to keep walking. We have had times we walked thru the valley, and had to make a conscious decision not to set up camp there. Just keep walking, knowing you are not alone.
